What to Consider When Wedding Planning

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Gillian Cooper Planning a wedding has never been more exciting. Todays weddings arent what they used to be as many extra avenues are now open to more people than there once was. Inexpensive travel, cheaper hotel rates, and access to once remote locations can make that special occasion one to remember. Adventure and excitement for your wedding day may sound romantic, but there are more things to consider when planning a wedding. Location will more then likely be one of the most important decisions to make. If planning a wedding halfway across the world, will it be a place that friends and family will be able to have access to? Some people have held weddings while sky diving from an airplane. This may once again seem adventurous, but is it a place where your grandmother and grandfather will be able to share in the festivities? So, an important factor when doing your destination wedding planning is to consider the people that you would like to be there. If its important for the grandparents to attend, it may be better to save the sky diving for the honeymoon, or save it for a pre or post wedding event. If youre unsure of where you would want your wedding to be, or if youre unsure about what is available in a certain area, you can check out a wedding planning web site. There are many out there and their sole purpose is to provide you with information to help plan your wedding. Once a suitable location is selected that caters to the needs of the bride, groom, and guests it is time for the wedding event planning. Wedding events can be catering, music, transportation and other activities. If you are having a wedding in a new location or youre just not familiar with what may be available in your native area you may wish to consult some wedding planning guides. These can be lists available off the internet, out of a phone book, or you may wish to consult a professional wedding planner in the chosen area. A wedding planner can also help with travel plans, hotel bookings, and handling any odds and ends that may need to be addressed. Remember to try and plan events that everyone can enjoy to help make that special day memorable for everyone. No wedding planning would be complete without those wedding vows. Some people still choose to write their own vows while others simply go with the more traditional vows. Wedding vows planning can be an important part of the wedding adding or taking away intimacy from the event. A favorite poem or simple words of commitment, respect, and love can be shared and can make all the difference in the ceremony. Wedding planning can take time and a lot of effort. Its important to realize the experience you wish to create and make sure that everything remains affordable at the same time. Keeping guests in mind whilst planning can save time and money and also ensure that a full list of guests attend. If however you are looking for that romantic get away for two, there are many non traditional paths to take as well. The important part when planning your wedding is to make sure that the bride and groom are happy with their decisions and that they make them together. 7 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Buy A New Wedding Dress

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Emma Goddard Every bride wants to look her best for her big day; it is the day when you want to shine and stand out as you walk down the aisle. One of the most important things a bride considers about her big day is of course the wedding gown. It should be the dress of your dreams and you should feel like a princess. However buying a new wedding dress isnt always the best option. Here are 7 reasons why you shouldnt buy a new wedding dress. 1. Perhaps the biggest reason that goes against purchasing a new wedding dress is the cost. Wedding dresses average from the cheapest at around 350 to well over 6,000, of course while it is your big day, it is a lot of money for a dress. If you are on a budget then buying a second hand dress could save you hundreds which could go towards other costs. 2. You are only going to be wearing the gown for a few hours on your big day and this is more relevant if you are going to change clothes for your evening reception. So you should ask yourself whether the few hours wear is worth the cost of buying a new dress. 3. Wearing a second hand wedding dress that has been passed down through the family holds more sentimental value than going out and buying a brand new one. You should take this into account when considering whether to go with new or old. 4. If you spend hundreds of pounds on a new dress, you could be on tenterhooks all day making sure you dont have an accident which could ruin your dress, especially if you want to recoup your costs by selling it in the future. 5. If you are thinking of buying a new wedding dress solely for the impact it will have on your guests, then remember that it is only the initial first 10 minutes or so that they see you in it that matters. After this, the wow factor wears off and only you know whether your dress was brand new or second hand. 6. Consider whats going to happen to the dress after your big day. If you spend hundreds on a new dress how are you going to preserve it and store it for the future? If you plan on keeping it for your daughter, it could cost a lot to keep it in good condition. 7. It isnt the cost of the dress or the designer name on the dress that matters or the fact that your dress is brand new or second hand. You are all that matters, you make the dress and your day. A good quality second hand wedding dress can be bought for only a fraction of the cost of a new one and you will still stand out. Emma Goddard is Marketing Director of Share the Dream. Astragalus Root: From China to the Western World

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Becky Gormley Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceous) is derived from a perennial plant that grows in northern China and Mongolia. In China, this herb is considered one of the best for the immune system. According to the Chinese, Astragalus is said to have another effect on the “surface” of the body—that is, it is used to tonify the “Protective Qi,” known as Wei Qi in Chinese. This Protective Qi is a special kind of energy, which circulates just under the skin and in the muscle. Protective Qi is a Yang energy. Protective Qi circulates in the subcutaneous tissues providing suppleness to the flesh and adaptive energy to the skin. This function is essential to life. An important effect of Astragalus is in its ability to fortify the “Upright Qi.” Upright Qi is the energy allocated by the body to maintain upright posture and to maintain the position of the organs in their healthy position in their battle with gravity. As one gets older, or if one experiences chronic fatigue or exhaustion, or during illness, this Upright Qi is easily depleted resulting in the sinking, or “prolapse,” of organs. The western world has only recently become aware of the uses of Astragalus root. Studies conducted in America support the assertion that astragalus root can enhance the immune system. The herb appears to be effective in strengthening immune response in people who undergo radiation treatment or chemotherapy for cancer. People who used astragalus root during cancer treatment had fewer side effects and faster recovery time. Astragalus root appears to induce production of interferon, a chemical that is an essential part of the immune system and has been widely studied for its ability to fight the development of cancer. As an immune system enhancer, astragalus root may also be a promising treatment for HIV and for autoimmune diseases such as lupus It is used to increase energy, build resistance to illness, increase production of white blood cells, fight bacteria, stimulate appetite, fight fatigue, and combat colds and lung problems. It may increase resistance to viral infections, aid in would healing, and reduce water retention in kidney complications, help to control blood sugar, and may reduce side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Astragalus enhances the function of the skin to eliminate toxins. It is commonly used to help sores in the skin to come to a head and suppurate, and thus to heal more quickly and effectively. Astragalus has a mild diuretic action and helps to relieve excessive sweating. It is helpful in treating loose stools, chronic diarrhea and chronic or recurring colds. If a cold lasts too long it can cause a general fatigue syndrome that can itself become chronic. Astragalus helps people who just cant seem to shake a cold, by strengthening the immune system. Roots of astragalus plants that are at least four years old are dried and used for medicinal purposes. As an herbal remedy, astragalus root is said to ward off infections and possibly even cancer. It works in part by helping the skin to eliminate toxins. Astragalus root contains several compounds that are thought to help strengthen the immune system. These include polysaccharides, saponins, astragalosides, flavonoids and triterpenes. The active ingredients in astragalus root make it useful topically to help sores on the skin to heal. It can also be used to treat chronic symptoms of colds and flu, as well as diarrhea. Astragalus root is a mild diuretic, and it can help to reduce sweating as well. In traditional Chinese medicine, all of these uses are attributed to the ability of astragalus root to replenish “qi” so a person who is afflicted with an ailment can regain strength and immunity. Astragalus root is also said to protect the adrenal cortex, the gland that produces hormones related to stress. It may also help allergy sufferers by strengthen the immune system’s response to allergens in the environment. In addition, the saponins in astragalus root may have an effect on cardiovascular disease. Saponins have an anticoagulant effect that can prevent the development of blood clots that may lead to heart attacks and stroke. An interesting new area of research on Astragalus concerns its potential as a male fertility agent. Astragalus has been proved to stimulate sperm motility. Astragalus root can be used safely with few side effects. It is available in powdered extracts, tinctures and teas. The roots are usually sliced diagonally, making them look like a tongue depressor. Generally, the older root is of better quality. One popular way to take this herb is as a decoction: 1 heaping teaspoon of shredded root, or 2-3 sticks, per cup of water, simmer covered for 15-20 minutes, strain before drinking as tea; it is also available as a tincture and in capsules/tablets (following instructions on manufacturer’s label). Whole pieces may be added to soups and stews. Remove them before serving. The tea can be used to mix with concentrated frozen juices instead of using plain water to reconstitute them. Cautionary Notes: Since astragalus root can increase the effects of certain antiviral medicines, people who are taking such medications should consult a physician before using the herb. Also, astragalus may interfere with immune system suppressants that are prescribed to people who receive organ transplants, so it should not be used by these patients. Because of its anticoagulant activity, astragalus root may increase the risk of bleeding for people taking blood thinners such as Coumadin. Do not take before or after surgery as it could increase bleeding. Always consult your physician or health provider before starting any herbal treatment. Astragalus is not recommended when there is acute diarrhea; it is not a problem if there is chronic mild diarrhea. Taking large concentrated amounts for a prolonged period, in the form of extracts or capsules, may cause abdominal and chest tension in some people. Low Interest Payday Loan - How To Figure Out The APR Of A Payday Loan

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder The annual percentage rate (APR) of a payday loan is a helpful tool to compare rates of lenders. According to the Truth in Lending Act, passed by Congress, payday companies are to provide you with the APR. Some companies list this information on their site, while others only provide the fee amount and give you the APR after you have submitted an application. You can figure out the APR based on the fee amount by using the following formula. This way you will have an accurate way to compare costs, enabling you to find the best deal. The Formula Begin by multiplying the payday loan fee by the number of pay periods in a year. So if a payday loan lender charges a fee every two weeks, then there are 26 pay periods. For our example, we will use a loan fee of $15 for every $100 borrowed. This is a typical rate, although you can find lower rates for first time borrowers. The formula looks like this: 15 (loan fee) x 26 (pay periods) = 390 The 390 equals the yearly charge for the loan. To find the percentage rate, we will have to do one more step. Divide the yearly charge by the loan amount, then times the total by 100 to get the percent. For instance, we will take 390 and times it by $100 since that was our original loan amount. The formula is: 390 (yearly charge) x 100 (loan amount) = 3.9 3.9 x 100 (to get the percent) = 390% (APR) What It Means Payday loans give you a cash advance with the intention that you will pay back the loan on your next payday. You will not be paying $390 in finance fees for the year, only the $15 for the pay period. However, if you roll over the loan, you will be racking up the finance charges. Cash advances are best used for temporary emergencies, like covering a bounced check or car repairs. For longer term credit, it is better to look at a credit card or personal loan. While these types of loans will affect your credit score, they will also provide better rates. Making Criminals Out of Human Beings in America

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Lance Winslow So often we are quick as a society to judge our fellow man and to condemn anything that is not like us? If we are Christians we judge Muslims and Jews? If we are Black we judge whites and Hispanics. If we are poor we judge the rich. It is always someone elses fault. You know we also do this with criminals dont we? Recently this topic of conversation came up in an online think tank when a member stated; The public has the perception of us vs. them with respect to law-breakers. Well it is human nature to categorize things. Criminal is a word, which is a label, it is a noun representing a person and therefore used to categorize. This is how the human brain does things, how it decides where to commit something to memory and imprint the data. As far as this setting up a mentality of us being better than those we label as criminals, that to is human nature and inherent. Are you asking to educate people to re-wire their brains to think differently? If so, yes that can be done thru memorization responses in educational reward or penalty testing. But if we teach the human brain not to categorize and see all things in shades it can cause issues with higher learning in various other research fields and we will need humans for that too. Humans run the systems and flows of civilization and the way their brains work help achieve that, do they not? And in philosophically asking this question the next question is; should we rewire human thinking to not see categories? So whereas you see a mailman, instead you have to call the image something else such as a man. But that is a categorization also in that a man is different than a female or woman. So you have to call it a person. But is that fair to the dog? Dogs are people too? You see the problem with the re-wiring of the human brain in categorizing. And to your point about us being better than them. I think many dogs are much more honest than many people. Which genetically we know that is true because humans are exceptional at deception, which is one thing, which clearly separates us from other species in the animal kingdom. Perhaps we might all consider this philosophy and think on this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board.
